The Toronto Blue Jays will have a busy trade deadline day as they look to make some big moves which could apparently involve trading outfielder George Springer.

The Blue Jays main priority at the deadline will be acquiring a starting pitcher since their rotation has been their biggest weakness this season which is why many believe they will be going after Merrill Kelly.

After a brutal 2024 season, Springer has seriously stepped up his game this year which is why the Blue Jays might not have a better chance than now to unload his massive contract.
The Blue Jays have a bunch of outfielder on their roster which is why they could afford to trade him and freeing up some salary space will only help them in the off-season.
"With George Springer's resurgence this season, he would be a suitable trade target considering the number of outfielders the Blue Jays have," wrote Serrao. "Springer is a veteran who leads the team with 10 home runs.

While his strikeout rate in 2025 is among the highest of his career, his batting average of .261 and OPS of .817 signals that his approach at the plate remains solid.

However, a significant amount of money would need to be eaten off of his contract." -Serrao

According to reports, the New York Mets could be interested in taking Springer since they need help at centerfield and could afford to take his contract on since they are already well over the luxury tax.
A team like the New York Mets may be a good fit as they need help in center field.

The Blue Jays would have to eat a good portion of that for this year at least because the Mets' payroll is already one of the highest in the league. -VonScio

While Springer has been a big part of the team's success lately, they might not get another chance like this to off load his contract because this time last year they wouldn't have been able to pay a team to take on Springer.
It will be interesting to see what moves end up taking place at the deadline this year for the Blue Jays.
