The Blue Jays looking to possibly acquire Merrill Kelly in blockbuster trade with the Diamondbacks
The Blue Jays are set to get Max Scherzer back this week but that does not solve all of their problems as Bowden Francis is still on IL and has been having a horrendous season.
Reporter Jim Bowden recently stated that he could see the Blue Jays trading for Merrill Kelly in exchange for LHP Kendry Rojas and second baseman Sam Shaw.
On Friday, insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic proposed a hypothetical swap that would send Kelly to Toronto in exchange for left-handed pitcher Kendry Rojas and second baseman Sam Shaw, the Blue Jays' number-eight and 24 prospects per MLB Pipeline. -Roberts
Kelly has been solid this season with a 3.41 ERA in 15 starts and since his contract is coming to an end this season the Diamondbacks will look to trade him which is why the Blue Jays would be a perfect fit.
"The Blue Jays are focused on acquiring a starting pitcher before the trade deadline and the veteran righty would be a good fit for them. Kelly, 36, is 6-3 with a 3.41 ERA over 15 starts and will be eligible for free agency at season's end," -Bowden
Adding Kelly to the Blue Jays starting rotation would be huge since he is exactly what they need in terms of a reliable pitcher that they can count on whenever he steps on the mound.
The Blue Jays clearly need another pitcher and Kelly could be a perfect fit at a very low cost.
