Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins' plan for the trade deadline revealed
The Blue Jays are on very big high right now as they are currently the best team in the American League with a 12-3 record in their last 15 games but they are still looking to make some small changes before the playoffs.
In a recent interview, former MLB GM Jim Bowden stated that he has heard that the Atkins is looking to add a starting pitcher to their rotation at the trade deadline.
If the Blue Jays believe they have a chance to make a run in October, they are going to need another dependable arm alongside the steady Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt and José Berrios. Therefore, it's no surprise that The Athletic's Jim Bowden has heard that they have locked in on acquiring another starting pitcher. -Fox
Bowden added that with how Bowden Francis is playing it is clear they need a starting pitcher which is why they could be interested in Tyler Anderson, Zach Gallen or Merrill Kelly.
«The Blue Jays have made acquiring a starting pitcher their priority at this deadline,» Bowden wrote. «They match up well with the Diamondbacks for one of their impending free-agent starters, Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly, if Arizona decides to sell, or perhaps with the Angels for Tyler Anderson.» -Bowden
Whichever pitcher the Blue Jays end up going after at the trade deadline, fans can at least be reassured that they will be looking to acquire a starting pitcher which should be a huge help.
The unfortunate part in all of this is that they will need to figure out what to do with Francis when they land a new starting pitcher as they will have no room for him.
