John Schneider dealing with backlash from Blue Jays fans after latest decision
Trey Yesavage was pitching a monster game for the Toronto Blue Jays, throwing a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts, but in the 6th inning manager John Schneider pulled the pitcher from the game.
John Schneider makes controversial move pulling Yesavage in the middle of a no-hitter.
Edward Eng of Jays Journall gave his thoughts on the controversial pull for Yesavage, while it makes sense as he will still be needed and it was a blowout, Schneider make have taken something special away from the rookie and the fans.
"That bold move was met by a chorus of boos from the Toronto fans. After all, not only was Yesavage in the midst of perhaps the best start ever for a rookie in the MLB Playoffs, he was also no-hitting the Yankees and was only at 78 pitches at the time. Apparently, Schneider hasn't learned anything from his previous playoff mistakes in giving the right-hander the early hook."-Eng
This previous mistake was in the 2023 postseason against the Minnesota Twins, where Jose Berrios was on fire in game 2 of the wild card series, when Schneider pulled him too early and the Twins ended up coming back and winning the series.
Funny enough after Yesavage was pulled, the Yankees actually grabbed a lot of momentum making the game way closer than it should have been as they scored multiple runs in in the sixth inning.
"New York would capitalize and go on to pump seven runs on the scoreboard at the expense of Justin Bruihl, Braydon Fisher, Eric Lauer and Tommy Nance and quickly made a game of it."-Eng
Hopefully it was enough of a scare for Schneider to not repeat this mistake a third time for the rest of the postseason but only time will tell.
