Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette had easily once of the worse seasons of his career as he struggled at the plate plus missed a bunch of game due to multiple injuries.
During last week's press conference, CEO Mark Shapiro pointed out how he thought despite the terrible year, manager John Schneider did a great job as the Blue Jays manager which is why they have decided to keep him even if they seem to have fired almost ever other coach.
“I thought he had a good year,” Shapiro said. ”(He) stayed solution-focused in the light of a lot of headwinds and a lot of challenges and ongoing setbacks and injuries. He was just focused on how to lead his staff to find a way to get better. That is not always easy to do ... He keeps getting better and will continue to get better.”
During an interview last week, Schneider pointed out that the season had a mix of issues between the lack of consistency from players to go along with injuries and just poor timing.
The Blue Jays manager also took the opportunity to give his opinion on shortstop Bo Bichette's season, calling him out to the media by stating that he had an uncharacteristic season to what he normally does, Schneider stated it is tough to win where you're top guys are not delivering.
“Starting with Bo, it's such an uncharacteristic season out of him, you know, from what he's consistently done in his career,” said Schneider, the second-youngest manager in club history. “When you have guys at the top of your order (struggling) … it's tough to win consistently. For whatever reason, that happened at the same time … That's going to make a season very trying.”
Clearly Schneider expects more from his players which he should for the money they are paid.
