This is the kind of aggressive, "push all the chips in" move that separates contenders from pretenders.
A new trade proposal has surfaced that could solve the Blue Jays' outfield problems in one swing, but it requires sacrificing a franchise cornerstone.
According to a report, the Blue Jays could land Red Sox All-Star Jarren Duran in a deal that sends Jose Berrios to Boston.
The full proposal: Toronto acquires: OF Jarren Duran ($7.7M) Boston acquires: RHP José Berrios ($19M), Prospect Jojo Parker, and $5M in salary retention.
Why do this? Because the Blue Jays have whiffed on Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette is gone. They need a spark.
Duran (Drafted 7th Round, 2018 by Boston) is exactly that spark.
In 2025, he played 157 games, hitting 16 homers, stealing 24 bases, and leading the AL in triples (13) for the second straight year.
He is a chaos agent on the basepaths and provides the elite left-handed bat this lineup screams for.
If he had been on the 2025 Blue Jays, he would have ranked 1st in stolen bases and triples, and 2nd in RBIs.
The cost is steep. Berrios has been a workhorse, posting 30+ starts for five straight years.
But with the emergence of Trey Yesavage and the signing of Dylan Cease (mentioned in rumors), the Jays have a surplus of pitching.
Trading from depth to fill a massive hole in left field makes "baseball sense".
A rare "win-win" between rivals
Trades within the AL East are rare, but this one fits both timelines.
Boston needs a reliable starter to stabilize their rotation. Toronto needs an impact outfielder to replace the void left by Bichette and Kiermaier's departure.
Duran is under team control through 2028, meaning this isn't a rental; it's a long-term solution.
Losing "La Makina" hurts. He is a leader.
But Jarren Duran brings an electricity that Rogers Centre hasn't seen in years.
Ross Atkins needs to be bold. This is bold.
