The Toronto Blue Jays have experienced a rollercoaster of a season, battling inconsistency throughout. Expectations were elevated at the start of the year, but the results haven't always matched the optimism.

With the team lingering near the .500 mark, the season could still unfold in several ways. Their early inconsistency has made it difficult to get a clear read on who they really are.

Blue Jays can entertain the idea of trading pitcher Chris Bassitt.

ESPN's Buster Olney recently suggested that the Blue Jays might consider trading veteran pitcher Chris Bassitt if their season doesn't improve.
«Now that they've signed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to anchor their team for a long time, they could look at the best ways to shape a future around him, and weigh offers for players such as Chris Bassitt.» -Olney

Nick Ziegler from the Toronto Blue Jays On Si writes that although the Blue Jays' 2025 outlook remains uncertain, they achieved their top priority by locking up Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a long-term contract.
Securing Guerrero gives the franchise its cornerstone star, but the next challenge is building the right team around him to maximize his impact during his time in Toronto.
"This season, the right-hander has pitched well, totaling a 3-2 record and 3.35 ERA. There are going to be plenty of contenders looking for help in the starting rotation department, and Bassitt might be able to bring back a sizeable haul for Toronto." -Ziegler

If the Blue Jays slip out of playoff contention before the trade deadline, it would be logical to trade a veteran like Chris Bassitt, especially since he's in the final year of his deal.
That said, the Blue Jays still aim to compete this season. While early injuries and underwhelming showings from recent additions have set them back, there's optimism that a healthy, productive lineup could help them stay in the race.
Additionally, with several important players set to hit free agency, the team's long-term direction will be something to watch closely.
