Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer has been having a great first season in Toronto and as his contract comes to an end, there are rumors that he might be extended.

The Blue Jays signed 40 year old Scherzer to a one year deal in the off-season worth $15 million that many were worried was an overpay but it looks to be all working out.

Scherzer has been a big part of the Blue Jays recent success and despite missing a solid portion of the first half of the season, he has been dominant since returning from IL.
During a recent interview on TSN MLB insider Keegan Matheson stated that he believes there is a 30% chance that Scherzer signs a new deal in Toronto.
On Tuesday, MLB.com Blue Jays reporter Keegan Matheson made an appearance on TSN with Bryan Hayes and Frank Corrado where the question of Scherzer's future came up. Matheson was asked if there was a possibility that Scherzer would return to the Blue Jays in 2026. In response, Matheson said he predicts there is a "30 percent" chance for Scherzer to stay in Toronto. -Ferraro

So far this season Scherzer has a 3.82 ERA in 12 starts with a 5-2 record and 61 strikeouts which seems to be much better than most fans thought he would be for Toronto.
"The Blue Jays have gotten a solid performance from Scherzer this season. In 12 starts, Scherzer has a 5-2 record with a 3.82 earned run average and 61 strikeouts. " -Ferraro

There is a few factors why Scherzer be not end up being extended for next season, the first being his age, he is 41 years old and there is a chance that the team believes it is too risky to sign a pitcher of that age.
The other issue they might run into is that Scherzer is having a solid season in 2025 and he might end up getting quite a few offers in free agency to the point where Toronto is out bid.
The final possibility is that Scherzer might end up deciding to retire at the end of the season since he is clearly in the last few years of his career at best.
Overall, fans would be ecstatic if Ross Atkins find a way to keep Scherzer around which is possible but it is just as possible that he ends up walking.
