MLB insider Jim Bowden gives some surprising details regarding the Vladimir Guerrero Jr extension situation as he believes Guerrero will be a free agent next winter.
Blue Jay fans have been wondering what will happen with Vladimir Guerrero Jr this off-season as GM Ross Atkins has yet to give any update on where they are in the extension process and most updates have been about other teams interested in trading for him.
Jim Bowden believes that Vladimir Guerrero Jr will be a free agent next off-season
During the 2024 season, Guerrero told reporters on a few occasions that he would like to sign a long term extension in Toronto and wants to retire a Blue Jay but for some reason the team does not seem to be on the same page.
During a recent interview, MLB insider Jim Bowden stated that he believes that Guerrero will not accept any deal this off-season and will wait to enter free agency next winter as he will be the Juan Soto of the 2025 off-season.
"He'll be the Juan Soto of next offseason. He's going to get [to free agency]. I don't see a pathway, no matter what you offered him right now."

«He'll be the Juan Soto of next offseason. He's going to get [to free agency],» Bowden noted on the Sportsnet podcast. According to him, no matter what amount the Jays offered, he didn't see a pathway for Guerrero to end up with them anymore. -Das
This is a discouraging update but it unfortunately makes sense since the Blue Jays front office have let this drag on for so long that it was inevitable that Guerrero would change his mind and now wants to see what kind of money he will get in the open market.
