Shane Bieber could jump ship for Yankees next season
Aaliyan Mohammed of Newsweek recently reported that Blue Jays ace pitcher might be on his way out if he continues to play the way he did in his debut.
"There is no such thing as too much pitching, given the frequency of injuries at the position. Bieber himself has been plagued by injuries, but if he can prove his value once again, the aggressive Yankees front office could go after him. Adding Bieber to the mix alongside Fried, Cole, Rodón and Gil would give the Yankees the best rotation in the American League, and potentially all of baseball."-Mohammed
He is currently at a project value of $145 million for six years, that would be an $8 million raise from what he would make if he decides to keep his contract for one more year.
It is believed that if he continues to pitch the way he has since returning from injury, he will look to hit the free agent market where he will most likely get some massive offers in which the Yankees are apparently very interested.
Unfortunately the New York Yankees have deeper pockets than the Blue Jays, but maybe a deep playoff run could convince Bieber to stay if Toronto can manage to pay him what he is worth.
It would be a shame to let an ace pitcher go so soon after acquiring him, and maybe the Blue Jays head office should be looking into extension talks sooner rather than later.
