Bo Bichette isn't expected to opt out of his Mets contract after this season, according to Jon Heyman.

That closes the door, at least for now, on any conversation about a reunion with the Blue Jays.

Bichette is having a strong year in New York, hitting .266 across 127 games with 12 home runs and 64 RBIs.

He's collected 134 hits this season, with 36 walks against 100 strikeouts.

Over his last 10 games, he's been especially hot, picking up nine hits and eight RBIs in that stretch.

None of that production seems to be pushing him toward testing free agency early. Staying put looks like the plan.

For Blue Jays fans, this is the kind of update that stings a little, even years removed from his departure.

What this means for the door Toronto once left open

Bichette came up through Toronto's system and became part of the young core that carried real hype for years.

He was mentioned by name in Buck Martinez's recent comments about the excitement around Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bichette growing up together in that lineup.

That history doesn't disappear just because he's wearing a different uniform now.

But a report like this makes clear the business side of the sport rarely bends to nostalgia.

Bichette locking in with the Mets means Toronto's front office can stop entertaining any long-shot scenario involving him.

For a fan base still fond of what he brought to the middle of that lineup, this is one door that appears to be closing for good despite many rumors stating otherwise throughout the season.
