The Pittsburgh Pirates announced this afternoon that they have cut ties with former beloved Toronto Blue Jays infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

The Blue Jays traded Falefa at the trade deadline last season for second baseman Charles McAdoo and cash considerations.

Former Blue Jays infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa placed on waivers by the Pirates

The Pirates announced this afternoon that they have decided play place Kiner-Falefa on outright waivers as he will now be looking for another team to give him a chance.

Despite being on outright waivers, Isiah Kiner-Falefa is in the Pirates lineup

He can play because he hadn't been claimed or cleared, but still a strange situation

The strange part in all of this is until Kiner-Falefa clears waivers or is claimed by another team, the Pirates can continue to play him as they are tonight against the Boston Red Sox.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been placed on outright waivers. He is 81 plate appearances shy of a $250K bonus. He is still on the Pirates' roster and can be for the remainder of the season, if not acquired by the end of the weekend. More details here:

Kiner-Falefa has had quite the rough season at the plate for the Pirates in 2025 as he only has 1 home run along with 30 RBIs and a .268 batting average in a total of 117 games this season.

While Kiner-Falefa has had a tough season in 2025, he will likely be claimed off waivers and if he clears, a team will certainly make him an offer before the end of the season.
