The Pirates announced on Friday that Horwitz would be joining the Pirates in Philadelphia with a possibility of making his debut over the weekend but they announced that it would not be on Friday night.

Yesterday, the Pirates announced that they had finally activated Horwitz for their game and consequently optioned first baseman and outfielder Matt Gorski too the minor leagues to make room for Horwitz.

Horwitz ended up making his first appearance yesterday in the Pirates game against the Phillies in which they lost 5-2 and Horwitz finished the game with two at bats, striking out on both occasions.
Thee young first baseman had a great rookie season in the MLB with the Blue Jays last season which is why it will be interesting to see how he does in his sophomore season.
