Terrible update as George Springer's time in Toronto is coming to an end
The Toronto Blue Jays still have George Springer under contract until the end of 2026 but many believe that he will be traded before the deadline this year.
Over the last two years, the Blue Jays were seen to have the worst contract in the MLB with Springer since he was underperforming while making an average salary of $25 million per season.
The Blue Jays will likely be trading George Springer before the trade deadline
Springer has been on fire this season which is why many believe they should keep him but at the same time he is now at the end of his career and his value might never be higher than it currently is again.
According to a recent report, if the Blue Jays are sellers at this year's trade deadline they will likely be moving on from multiple veterans such as Kevin Gausman, George Springer and Chris Bassitt.
«Toronto could be forced to sell, like last year, if it sits too far behind at the deadline. Other franchises would love the Blue Jays to be sellers again this year, with Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt, Kevin Gausman, and George Springer potentially representing four of the best players available. But if the Blue Jays are even close to contention, they'll buy - at least in some capacity,» -Bannon
Moving Springer might be the right move to make even if the Blue Jays are buyers at the trade deadline since with the numbers if they trade him now they will get a very solid return from a team likely in a win now situation that wants to use Springer for the rest of the season.
While Springer does come with some injury issues that team's might look at especially since he is now older, he only has a year left on his contract which is why he would be a perfect rental for a team looking to make a World Series push.
It's tough to say that any team around Major League Baseball should be interested in trading for Springer. -Conahan
Holding onto to Springer this season might help them a bit right now but if he returns to his old self next season or even if his play just declines a little bit, they will not get even close to as much for him at the deadline next season.
