The Toronto Blue Jays announce significant injury update on Andres Gimenez
The Toronto Blue Jays have a ton of injuries right now but it looks like second baseman Andres Gimenez is finally making some strides towards a return according to manager John Schneider.
Blue Jays announce update regarding Andres Gimenez
Gimenez was placed on 10day IL back at the start of June with a sprained left ankle which many thought would be a quick fix but his recovery seems to have taken much longer than expected.
According to Schneider, Gimenez has begun swinging a bat once again but has yet to be cleared on fielding and running which means he is starting to recover but probably will not be back for at least a couple more weeks.
Manager John Schneider mentioned over the weekend that Giménez, a three-time Gold Glove winner, has started hitting in the batting cage and is practicing fielding ground balls from his knees. However, he has yet to receive clearance for running or standing fielding, indicating that several important steps remain before he's ready for game action. -Graves
Gimenez has had a tough time staying healthy this season but hopefully he will be back for the final month or so of the season since having him back on the field will be a huge boost for Toronto's defense.
On the other side of things, the Blue Jays have been dominant without him in the lineup with players such as Davis Schneider and Addison Barger have stepped up in a major way pushing the Blue Jays to first place in the AL East.
During Gimenez' absence, Toronto has had both Ernie Clement and Leo Jimenez subbing in for him at second base.
When he finally returns, the Blue Jays will have a tough decision to make on who they will send down to the minors to make room on the roster.
