The Blue Jays announce that they have signed Alejandro Kirk to a five year deal
MLB insider Robert Murray just broke the news that the Blue Jays and Kirk have come to an agreement on a five year contract extension worth $58 million which includes a signing bonus and no club options.
BREAKING: Alejandro Kirk and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a five-year, $58 million contract extension, source says. The structure, which includes a signing bonus and no club options, allows him to enter free agency after his age-31 season. Kirk is represented by Eric Izen and Greg Genske of Vayner Sports.
This was a smart move by the Blue Jays who do not have a lot of catcher depth right now in their organization and since Kirk is still young, they now have him locked down for another 5 years.
Kirk has also been on fire in Spring Training a he currently has a .302 batting average with a .819 OPS, 2 homeruns and 8 RBIs in 43 at bats which fans are hoping will continue this season.
