The Toronto Blue Jays announce the signing of surprising new catcher

The Blue Jays had a ton of international bonus pool money after trading for additional money from the Cleveland Guardians to help sign Roki Sasaki but after failing to do so they ended up putting it towards a haul of international free agents.

The Blue Jays announced yesterday that they have signed a total 22 international free agents in the past few week including a few more recent additions that were made yesterday.

The Blue Jays announced a surprising signing in catcher Keegan Pieternella who is from the Netherlands where he also a member of the national team for the 2023 u-18 World Cup.

While baseball has been growing Worldwide over the past decade, baseball is far from the Netherland national sport which makes this signing so interesting but there has been a total of 16 Dutch players that have played in the MLB.

This seems to be a great signing by the Blue Jays as they do not have a ton of high end catcher prospects and it looks like they got an extremely solid catcher Pieternella.

The Blue Jays unfortunately missed out on Roki Sasaki which would have been an incredible addition to their roster but they were still able to be very productive in terms of their international signings with a long list of talented players.

While none of these signings will see time in the MLB any time soon, they is a chance that they do blossom into solid MLB players one day.
