Watching Ty France absolutely tear up spring training for the Padres is the massive agonizing regret we completely feared.
The front office made an incredibly difficult roster decision when they let our reliable veteran infielder leave during the winter.
We all remember him arriving at the trade deadline alongside Louis Varland and providing immense immediate value to the clubhouse.
Ty France ended up seeing a slightly reduced role down the final stretch last season.
But that absolutely never diminished the phenomenal offensive consistency and platinum-caliber defensive value he brought to the diamond every single day.
After signing a minor-league deal with San Diego this winter, he is completely making our management team second-guess their strategy.
The seasoned veteran is currently batting a spectacular .370 with a gorgeous .952 OPS down in the Cactus League.
He has already scored two runs and driven in five massive RBIs over just 11 exhibition games for his new squad.
The front office gambled on a massive comeback instead of a sure thing
Every single fan feels a massive sting watching him play spotless Gold Glove defense over 21 flawless innings at first base.
He is even showing incredible athletic flexibility by taking highly valuable defensive reps over at the hot corner this spring.
Letting an absolute proven commodity simply walk out the door creates a completely unnecessary massive hole on our major league bench.
If the Blue Jays had just kept this incredibly reliable safety net, our current overall roster construction would look vastly different.
Instead, the management team is currently forced to heavily bet on a highly risky comeback attempt by Eloy Jiménez to fill that exact similar role.
We all desperately want Eloy to magically rediscover his terrifying vintage swing and become our ultimate right-handed designated hitter.
But banking our critical championship depth on a player desperately trying to resurrect his career is an incredibly terrifying gamble.
France provided the exact perfect stabilizing veteran presence that every single World Series contender absolutely needs to survive the summer.
Watching him secure a highly coveted opening day roster spot for the Padres feels like a massive missed opportunity for our beloved franchise.
We genuinely hope this calculated free agency gamble does not permanently haunt our spectacular championship window this season.
