The Toronto Blue Jays are in a tough spot right now and they could end up being sellers at the trade deadline which could see Jeff Hoffman headed to the Detroit Tigers according to reports.
The Blue Jays have quite a few solid options when it comes to trade if they end up being sellers as reports have even suggest that that they could move on from Daulton Varsho who would clearly bring back a massive return.
Blue Jays could look to trade Jeff Hoffman to the Tigers if things do not improve
The Blue Jays are in a tough spot because if they do not start playing better there is a good chance they will enter a rebuild as things are clearly not working out with this group which would involve multiple trades and firings.
A recent report suggested that the Blue Jays could look at trading Hoffman at the trade deadline since they would likely get a massive return with how he has been playing this year and the fact that he still has 2 years on his deal.
"Hoffman's availability will depend on where the Blue Jays are in the standings at the deadline. The American League East is tight; less than 10 games separate the leader from the fifth-place team in the division. If Toronto falters, the team could decide to sell their veterans to contenders, starting with Hoffman.» -Howell
While trading Hoffman would be a last resort for the Blue Jays, he could bring them back some incredible players such as Jackson Jobe, Max Clark, Kevin McGongile, Jose Briceno or Bryce Rainer.
But, as ludicrous as a Hoffman trade may sound, it is not without some validity. The Tigers boasted a top-ranked farm system in spring training and have top-100 headliners such as RHP Jackson Jobe, OF Max Clark, SS/2B Kevin McGongile, SS Bryce Rainer, C/1B Thayron Liranzo, and 1B/C Josue Briceno. -Bernadi
Hoffman has been arguably one of the Blue Jays best pitchers this season which is why trading him would definitely hurt the fan base but it might make a lot of sense if they end up entering a rebuild.
Hopefully things do not get to this point but as they currently sit a .500, it is hard not to look at the possibility.
