The Toronto Blue Jays are on a tear, riding a four-game winning streak and having won seven of their last ten.

With a 48-38 record, they've surged into a first-place with the New York Yankees atop the American League East.

Blue Jays eyeing Red Sox star in blockbuster trade.

Curt Bishop from The Sporting News writes that following a turbulent 2024 campaign, the Blue Jays have stormed back into the playoff picture and are expected to be active buyers at the trade deadline. One position that stands out as a potential upgrade: third base.

"Some surprising options could emerge on the trade market. One such option could be Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman." -Bishop

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report named the Blue Jays as a potential landing spot.

"The Ernie Clement/Addison Barger platoon has been a fruitful one for the Blue Jays at third base, but this offense frankly needs another big bat before its World Series pursuit can be taken seriously." -Rymer

The Blue Jays are in need of reinforcements at third base and could benefit from adding another impact bat to their lineup. Bregman has been delivered a solid season is Boston, making him an intriguing option.

"Despite being on the injured list, Bregman is hitting .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, a 2.9 WAR and a .938 OPS. It is important to note that trades within the same division are rare. However, that doesn't mean a trade to the Blue Jays is impossible. Toronto was one of several teams that was in the mix for Bregman last offseason before he signed in Boston. This could give Toronto a better chance to compete for a World Series title this coming October. They have not been to the World Series since 1993." -Bishop

Bregman brings right-handed power to the lineup and could be a long-term asset, potentially easing the blow if Bo Bichette departs in the near future.

Now, it's just a matter of seeing what direction the Blue Jays choose to take.
