The Toronto Blue Jays' hoped-for redemption campaign in 2025 has hit a snag. After a strong start, the team has slipped below the .500 mark in recent weeks, with a quiet offense and inconsistent pitching contributing to their struggles.

Don't be shocked if the Blue Jays deal George Springer by the MLB trade deadline.

Edward Eng from the Jays Journal writes that the Blue Jays signaled their intent to compete following the 2020 season by signing George Springer to a six-year, $150 million deal, the largest contract in franchise history at the time, until Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s $500 million extension surpassed it.
"Springer's play took a bit of a nosedive after that, however. He only hit .240 across 2023 and '24, and finished last season with a batting average of .220 to go along with 19 home runs and 56 RBI. It marked the first year he failed to record 20 home runs and 60 RBI since 2015." -Eng

Despite the team's early struggles this season, Springer has been a standout performer this season, hitting .306 with an .888 OPS, 11 runs, 2 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 4 stolen bases over 28 games.
Eng also writes that Springer leads the Blue Jays in both batting average and OPS, emerging as one of the few consistent offensive contributors on the roster.
"While's Springer isn't due to hit free agency until the end of next season, the 35-year-old veteran could become a candidate to be moved at the trade deadline if the Jays aren't able to turn things around.

Not only could Springer serve as a leader for whatever team acquires him, but he's also looking more and more like a legitimate offensive piece that could help length a contender's lineup." -Eng

Dealing Springer now could allow the Blue Jays to take advantage of his current surge, especially with no certainty that he can sustain this level of play next season.
We'll have to wait and see where the Blue Jays stand later in the season until they start dealing their star players.
