The Toronto Blue Jays acquired Myles Straw from the Cleveland Guardians yesterday in order to get more international bonus pool money to spend on Roki Sasaki who they missed out on.
The return to Cleveland has yet to be announced but the Blue Jays received
Straw with $3.5 million to put towards the $15 million left to pay him on his contract plus $2 million in international bonus pool money.
The Blue Jays have already moved Myles Straw less than 24 hours after acquiring him
The Blue Jays have had Straw as part of their lineup for less than 24 hours but have already assigned him to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Double-A to start his time with the orgnaization.
Myles Straw was assigned to Double A Fisher Cats yesterday per the http://MLB.com transactions page #BlueJays
Fans are pretty devastated with the acquisition with
Straw as he had the worth OPS by any qualified hitter since the start of the 2022 season.
Myles Straw has the second worst OPS (.579) among qualified hitters since the start of 2022.
Are they looking at him as the replacement for 2024 Kevin Kiermaier? And if so, why?
While
Straw was once a Gold Glove winner, he is clearly no longer that player and the Blue Jays will now have to pay him close to $12 million over the next two seasons to be a minor league player that might not even get called up to Triple-A.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins has made a lot of rough moves throughout the years but this looks to be one of the worst ones.
While the intentions were good in trying to sign Sasaki, the fact that he failed and is now stuck with this contract is simply terrible.
