The Toronto Blue Jays have been having a tough time hitting the ball this season but none more than Anthony Santander who was brought in to add offense but cannot seem to figure it out.
The Blue Jays had offensive problems last season which is why they decided to sign Anthony Santander to a five year $92.5 million deal this off-season but that contract is starting to look like a big disaster.
The Blue Jays are starting to get worried about Anthony Santander's struggles
The Blue Jays brought in
Santander to be part of the solution this season as they hoped he would bring in a ton of offense but since the season began, it has been quite the opposite.
Santander so far this season has a .178 batting average along with a .267 on base percentage, .577 OPS with 4 homeruns and 12 RBIs in 33 games which is quite far from where they want him.
Santander, who signed a five-year, $92.5 million contract in December, has had a start to forget in Toronto. The veteran slugger entered Monday hitting .178 with four home runs and 12 RBI. -Elman
The slugger is coming off a career year which most knew he would not be able to reciprocate this season but at the same time his numbers this season are much lower than anyone would have expected.
Santander's .310 slugging percentage is nearly 200 points lower than last year's .506, and he's already been worth -0.6 bWAR. That's not quite what the Blue Jays envisioned when they poached him away from the rival Baltimore Orioles. -Elman
The Blue Jays know that
Santander has always started off his season's at a slow pace but then picks it up but if they actually want to make a push for the playoffs this season, they need him to start producing.
If he continues to hit at this rate, it will likely end up being the worst contract in the MLB.
