The Toronto Blue Jays are looking at making some changes to keep climbing in the standings which is why they are looking at a new plan for George Springer.
The Blue Jays offense has been up and down this season as they have hit a few dry spells but they seem to be running on all cylinders but there biggest issue is clearly consistency.
Blue Jays looking at new plan involving George Springer at leadoff
Springer is arguably one of the best leadoff hitters off all-time as he has the record for most leadoff homeruns in MLB history but things changed over the last year where he was moved down the lineup due to struggling at the plate.
This season,
Springer has been on fire on offense which is why the Blue Jays might be looking to have him as their leadoff hitter once again since it would make sense with the numbers he currently has.
If you optimized the Blue Jays' batting order on paper, Springer probably is the ideal leadoff hitter right now. He's putting together the type of season you'd love up top - 4.21 pitches per plate appearance and a .400 OBP. -Bannon
The main issue is that the Blue Jays want
Springer to keep producing the way he has and moving him back to the first slot in the order could end up disturbing those numbers.
But, there are considerations beyond the page. In the last two seasons, Springer was a below league-average hitter. This year, at age 35, he's on pace for his best OPS season since 2021. -Bannon
He would also need to alter his approach at the plate as leadoff since right now he is prioritizing damage over getting on base which is not what they need if he returns to lead off.
Springer is swinging and missing more than ever because he's prioritizing damage over simply getting on base. -Bannon
Bichette has been the Blue Jays main leadoff hitter so far this season and has been doing a solid job but this might be the change that the team needs to find more consistency when it comes to offense.
