The Toronto Blue Jays scouting director Shane Farrell left the organization last month to take a job with the Detroit Tigers and the Blue Jays are still searching for his replacement.

Farrell did a solid job for the Blue Jays but fell short of doing as well as his predecessor Steve Sanders who is currently the assistant general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Blue Jays are still looking for their new scouting director to replace Shane Farrell

During his time in Toronto, Sanders ran three drafts in which he ended up taking pitcher Alek Manoah in 2019, Davis Schneider in 2017, Spencer Hrowitz in 2019 and Addison Barger in 2018.
Sanders ran three drafts for the Blue Jays - replacing Brian Parker, who was fired after a hugely successful 2016 draft - and his best first-round pick was Alek Manoah at 11 in 2019, while Davis Schneider (28th round in 2017), Spencer Horwitz (24th round in 2019) and Addison Barger (sixth round in 2018) are among his other notable selections. Jordan Groshans (to the Marlins for Zach Pop and Anthony Bass) and Adam Kloffenstein (with Sem Robberse for Jordan Hicks) were flipped in win-now deadline deals. -Davidi

Farrell on the other hand did not draft that well during his time in Toronto as his best picks were Ricky Tiedemann and Arjun Nimmala but failed to draft any other players that have looked to have major league potential.
The Blue Jays need to hire someone rather quickly since they are letting time slip away and a new scouting director will need all of the time he can to get used to their system and see how he can improve their farm system.
Given that rough framework, hiring someone sooner rather than later is necessary so the groundwork can be set well in advance of the upcoming spring season. While there's a base in place to work from, the higher up a team picks, the bigger its signing-bonus pool, allowing for more strategy and creativity in how the dollars are spent. -Davidi

It is clear that the Blue Jays farm system needs help as they finished last season ranked 24th in the MLB in terms of farm system and will need to do better if they want a brighter future.
