Toronto Blue Jays Addison Barger is pushing other veterans out of the way
The Toronto Blue Jays have been searching for offence for the majority of this season and it appears that on their western road trip Addison Barger has been a spark for this team.
Barger continues to show great offensive output over the past three games as the Blue Jays offence has awakened and has provided the team with great run support as of late.
Barger failed to make the team out of Spring Training
Looking back at the Blue Jays' spring training roster decisions earlier this year, it was tough to see why Addison Barger was not heading to Toronto to begin the season. The lefty bat posted a .367/.429/.733 slash line and collected five extra base hits in 30 at-bats on his way to a 1.162 OPS, yet it wasn't enough to sway the Jays staff to keep him around. Barger has been giving the Blue Jays lots of versatility as he can play the outfield and the infield where he currently sits at third base. Ernie Clement who has played third base is now on 2nd as Andres Gimenez was placed on the 10 day IL.
The 25 year old was selected by the Blue Jays in 2018, in the sixth round 176th overall. In his last seven games, he's been at bat 21 times with six hits and five RBI's holding a batting average of .286 and an OBP of .348 and an SLG of .429.
Blue Jays offense has come to life during western road swing
Aside Barger's contribution, the Blue Jays offence has come to life over the past several games and have given the team the run support it needs to help win.
The Blue Jays had won their second game against Seattle last evening by a score of 6-3 which allows them to win the series and go for a sweep on Sunday.
After their last road trip which was a tough stretch where they were swept by the Houston Astros, lost the series against the Yankees, the Blue Jays managed to score 27 runs over their last five games which is far better than their previous couple of weeks.
The Blue Jays have had a hard time hitting the long ball and it appears there now getting better success on hitting singles, doubles which are filling up the bases and allowing RBI's to come in.
If the Blue Jays want to continue to turn their season around, it's this kind of offence the team needs and players like Barger can help them as the bottom half of the batting order is producing well for the first time in quite some time.
The Blue Jays closeout their series against the Mariners on Sunday May 12 with their game beginning at 4:10 PM eastern and will head back to Toronto for their series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
