The Toronto Blue Jays have shown signs of improvement lately, riding a four-game winning streak during their West Coast road swing.
For the Blue Jays, though, regaining their health needs to become a trend soon. Following their offseason acquisitions, the expectation was that they'd emerge as one of the stronger teams in the league.
Instead, injuries to key veterans have thrown them off course, and several of their recent acquisitions have struggled to perform while battling health issues of their own.
Jon Conahan from The Sporting News writes that
Santander suffered a shoulder injury during the series against
the Los Angeles Angels and subsequently sat out the games against Seattle.
However, manager John Schneider described the move as precautionary and said the Blue Jays expect him to return to the lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays.
"Anthony Santander missed all three games of the Seattle series. His shoulder «felt cranky» after falling into the right field seats in Anaheim. Santander should be good for Tuesday's game against the Rays." -Schneider
Conahan also writes that maybe a short break is exactly what Anthony Santander needs to reset. Just before the injury, he was showing signs of heating up at the plate, collecting five hits and a homer in his last three games.
"When the Blue Jays signed him, they hoped he'd be the same type of player he was a year ago for the Baltimore Orioles, where he hit 44 home runs and posted a 132 OPS+. For now, he's been the complete opposite of that." -Conahan
The Blue Jays will look to keep their winning streak alive at home against
the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.
