The Toronto Blue Jays currently hold the second American League Wild Card spot with a 42-36 record.
After a disappointing 2024 season, they've bounced back into playoff contention. However, there are still key areas they need to improve in the near future.
Blue Jays eyeing star pitcher from Red Sox.
Curt Bishop from The Sporting News writes that the Blue Jays will welcome Max Scherzer back from injured list on Wednesday, though the veteran pitcher has faced health challenges in recent years and is showing signs of aging.
Meanwhile, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report included the Blue Jays among potential suitors for Boston Red Sox right-hander Walker Buehler.
"As for whether two AL East rivals would really hook up on a trade, let's just assume the usual playbook wouldn't apply here. As Buehler is a rental without much value, neither Boston nor Toronto would have to go into a potential trade spooked about the long-term ramifications." -Rymer
Trades between division rivals are rare but not impossible. Adding
Buehler would fill a key gap for the Blue Jays and provide valuable insurance if Scherzer were to return to the injured list.
"Buehler himself is not having a good season with Boston. He is 5-5 with a 6.29 ERA in 13 starts, but he does have a track record of performing well in the postseason. The 30-year-old is a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion. He even closed out last year's World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the New York Yankees." -Rymer
Time will tell if the Blue Jays decide to pursue the veteran right-hander.
