Jake Bloss is officially the ghost of the Blue Jays' 40-man roster and fans should not expect a sighting until Canada Day.

The right-hander is still grinding through the lonely rehabilitation process after undergoing Ulnar Collateral Ligament surgery last May.
Ross Atkins sold the Yusei Kikuchi trade as a move to acquire immediate help, but Bloss has been anything but that.
Current medical projections have him sidelined until at least July 1, 2026, making him a non-factor for the first half.
That creates a massive depth problem for a rotation that is already relying on veteran health and prayer. https://www.bluebirdbanter.com/analyis/60443/better-know-your-blue-jays-40-man-jake-bloss
Before his elbow popped in 2025, the results in Triple-A Buffalo were frankly terrifying to watch.
Bloss posted a bloated 6.46 ERA and a 1.94 WHIP while getting hammered by minor league hitting.
The "stuff" that impressed scouts in the Astros system looked flat and hittable before he went under the knife.

Jake Bloss is a lottery ticket that won't cash until midsummer

Blue Jays fans have largely forgotten he is even in the organization, which might actually be a good thing.
If he returns in July, the front office will inevitably spin it as "acquiring a deadline arm from within."
But expecting a rookie coming off major elbow reconstruction to save the rotation in a pennant race is delusional.
He needs to prove he can actually get outs in Buffalo before anyone talks about him starting at Rogers Centre.
Will Wagner and Joey Loperfido are contributing, but the pitching component of that blockbuster deal is currently a zero.
The Jays need pitching depth now, not a rehabilitation project scheduled to arrive when the season is half over.
Until he is throwing live batting practice without pain, Jake Bloss is just a name on a 60-day IL spreadsheet.
