Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer announced yesterday that he would not be playing in the World Baseball Classic which has began some injury speculation.

Springer announced yesterday that he would not be joining Puerto Rico at the World Baseball Classic this year despite many expecting him to play.

George Springer recent announcement has some worried

Springer took quite the beating last season especially in the playoffs but found a way to battle through and play with the injuries he was dealing with for the team.
After yesterday announcement, it looks like Springer is still dealing with those injury problems which is why he has decided to not play in the World Baseball Classic as he wants to be ready for the start of the season.
"Down the stretch and in the playoffs, Springer dealt with injuries, and it appears it's still a nagging injury. Due to the injury, Springer decided he wouldn't play in the World Baseball Classic for Puerto Rico." -Cole Shelton

There has been no details released just yet on if this is a new injury or something that he has been dealing with since the playoffs but if it is something recent on top of all the other injuries, this can become concerning for Toronto.
"If it is a new injury to Springer, it would be concerning news to the Blue Jays. He's expected to once again be a key impact hitter for Toronto. Springer is in the final year of his six-year, $150 million deal with the Blue Jays." -Shelton

Hopefully Springer is not dealing with anything too serious as they would need him to be playing at least near the same pace he was last year if they plan on returning to the World Series again.
This could also be a precaution that he does not want to do too much before the season since he is still feeling the injuries from last year and wants to make sure he is ready for the start of 2026 as he enters the last year of his contract.
