Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins makes questionable move as he DFA's top prospect pitcher

The Blue Jays have made some interesting moves so far this off-season such as acquiring second baseman Andres Gimenez who lacks offensive skills yet the team is in need of an offensive threat.

Ross Atkins deciding to make his second major league signing of the off-season yesterday by signing former Mets pitcher Josh Walker to a one year deal worth $760,000.

By signing Walker, the Blue Jays needed to make room on their roster which is why they decided to DFA Hagen Danner which had many fans scratching their heads when the move was announced.

The Blue Jays decided to DFA Hagen which means he has been placed on waivers and will likely be picked up due to his solid numbers from last season in Triple-A.

On the other hand, Walker finished the season with a 4.06 ERA, he started off the season with a 2.83 ERA when he was with the Mets affiliate but after being released and claimed by the Pirates, his ERA jumped up to 8.00 in 9 innings pitched.

It seems like a strange decision by Atkins to risk losing one of their top pitcher prospects to sign a player to a major league deal that would have likely only landed a minor league deal on any other team.
