The 2025 spring training cuts will be a more difficult to complete as the Toronto Blue Jays have many players in contention for several roles that are still available.
Manager John Schneider along with his coaching staff have several players that are vying for several roster spots including third base, centre field and designated hitter.
Players pushing for spots as Spring Training draws to a close
Players like Addison Barger and Ernie Clement Are attempting to clinch third base as both players have had strong camps.
Take third base, which was mainly played by Ernie Clement last season. The utility infielder is having a good Spring Training, slashing .405/410/.622 with two home runs in 29 plate appearances. However, his power is a little lacking behind a guy like Addison Barger, who has also had a good Spring Training. So is Orelvis Martínez, who may be better suited to the designated hitter's role. In their centre field, Daulton Varsho is pegged for that position but if he is not healthy, Orelvis Martinez may appear to be a good fit.
Will Wagner should be the Blue Jays' primary third baseman, I've seen enough.
So far this Spring Training, Varsho has slashed .320/.379/.920 with four home runs in 29 plate appearances for a 204 wRC+. Ryley Delaney
Starting pitching could see some competition
Many have pegged the starting rotation as a lock and the only position within the Blue Jays organization that may not have much competition. With Max Scherzer's thumb issues continuing to persist, the Blue Jays may need to move some pieces around to make it work
Bowden's Best of Spring
Players like Jake Bloss, Yariel Rodriguez and Eric Lauer may all be options to replace Scherzer until he is healthy enough to come back to the mound.
In a way the depth that the team has despite some flaws that some of the players possess is a good issue to have as they do have other players who can fill in or compete for spots that could make the lineup very interesting going into Opening Day.
With six days remaining, Blue Jays fans will get to see their new lineup on March 27th as the Blue Jays will open their season at home after three seasons on the road when they face off against the Baltimore Orioles.
