The Toronto Blue Jays' standout closer could earn a spot on this year's All-MLB Team pitching staff.
Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman is being considered for the All-MLB Team.
This past offseason, the Blue Jays significantly bolstered their roster through several key free-agent signings, including
Hoffman.
Kenneth Teape from the Toronto Blue Jays On Si writes that neither Anthony Santader and Max Scherzer have hit their stride with the Blue Jays so far this season. Santander has been among the team's biggest letdowns early in the season, while Scherzer landed on the injured list after throwing just three innings in his debut.
Carrying the workload has been relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman, who signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Blue Jays last offseason.
"Thus far, Hoffman has built upon that success and taken things up another notch with the Blue Jays. Through 12 appearances and 13.1 innings, he has a 1.35 ERA with 19 strikeouts and six saves." -Teape
His standout performance has earned him votes for the All-MLB Team, according to Jason Foster of MLB.com.
"Already with a 0.9 WAR, Hoffman has put himself in a position to have the most productive season of his career with the hot start and is deserving of the All-MLB Team consideration." -Teape
We'll see if Hoffman can continue his strong play throughout the rest of the regualr season.
The Blue Jays will host the Red Sox on Thursday at 7:07pm. The Jays are coming off a big 7-6 win over Boston last night.
