Since 2018, when Votto made these comments, he has apologized but now has gone into detail and acknowledges his comments' power.
Since all this has blown over many years ago, yesterday, Votto decided to take to social media platform X, to display a hand written letter he wrote apologizing and talking about the incident. He mentions how he is disappointed in his actions from 2018 and that what hurts him the most is that he dissapointed his mother. She mentioned to him how he should be grateful to have been raised in Toronto, Canada, a safe and great country. She adds that he was raised better than that and he should be proud of where he comes from.
Throughout his career, Votto has been known for his exceptional hitting ability, keen eye for the strike zone, and capabilities at first base. He is a six-time MLB All-Star, winning the NL MVP award in 2010 when he led the league in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. Votto's disciplined approach at the plate has made him one of the most feared hitters in the game for many years, consistently posting high batting averages and on-base percentages.
In addition to his individual accolades, Votto was a key contributor to the Reds' success, helping lead the team to multiple postseason appearances. Votto is now at the end of his career as he has signed with the Blue Jays in the 2024 off-season but still clearly loves baseball as he has only signed a minor league deal but has expressed how he is excited to compete for a roster spot again.
