Toronto Blue Jays lose young promising outfielder Dasan Brown as he signs with the Milwaukee Brewers.

A report on Friday said Baseball America's transaction log showed the Milwaukee Brewers signing Brown to a minor-league deal. The 24-year-old Oakville, Ontario outfielder elected minor-league free agency after the 2025 season, ending a six-year run in the Toronto system.

's most recent MiLB transaction log.

He was Toronto's third-round pick in 2019 and reached Triple-A for the first time last year.
Toronto drafted Dasan Brown in the third round, 88th overall, in 2019, then paid him an $800,000 bonus to skip his Texas A&M commitment. That signing made him an easy prospect for local fans to follow, because he came out of Abbey Park High School.
The speed still plays, Fangraphs credits him with 36 steals in 101 games across Double-A and Triple-A in 2025. The bat never caught up, as he hit .174/.285/.260 with four homers and 15 RBIs, including a .175/.286/.249 line in New Hampshire.
Brown elected free agency at the end of the 2025 season but many thought he might return to Toronto since he was doing well there.

As a fan, I always pictured Brown patrolling center at Rogers Centre in September, glove first and chaos on the bases. He backed up that side of the profile in 2024, when MLB and Rawlings named him a Minor League Gold Glove winner with Double-A New Hampshire.
That hardware is the type of thing Milwaukee can actually use on a bench, late innings, one-run game, no questions asked. MLB Pipeline has called him an elite runner, and that's the carrying tool if the on-base skill holds.
For Toronto, this is a reminder that speed-and-defense prospects do not always wait around for the bat to arrive. Brown was as high as 15th on the Blue Jays' prospect list in 2023, and the organization is now down one of its best athletes.
Brown swiped 31 bases in 33 tries at Double-A in 2025, and that is real value even when the bat is light. If he keeps getting on base at all, that speed shows up in the only moments that matter.
Brown's path is still pretty simple, catch it, run it down, and keep finding ways to reach first base. If he flashes that Gold Glove defense in camp, it will not take long before Jays fans notice the Oakville kid is closer than ever.
