Toronto Blue Jays infielder Leo Jimenez might be the odd man out in Spring Training depending on how he plays.
The Blue Jays infield is a strange but good spot right now as they have a lot of solid players but will need to make some decisions on who they plan on keeping if they end up signing more players.
Leo Jimenez might not make it past Spring Training
Jimenez has seen some playing time with the Blue Jays over the last two years but not much especially in 2025 where he only played 13 games and with the team getting even stronger, it does not look like he would get more playing time in 2026.
On top of that Jimenez is out of minor league options which is why if he does not win the back up shortstop position, they will be forced to cut him loose.
Jimenez will battle for a backup middle infield role this spring training. As an out-of-options player, he won't be able to be sent to the minor leagues without first being offered to every other major league club on waivers. This increases the importance of the middle infielder flashing his skills during spring training and earning himself an opportunity." -Chris Georges
The Blue Jays already have Andres Gimenez as their shortstop for next year and with the possibility of Bo Bichette returning too, it is hard to see the Blue Jays will have any need for Jimenez.
"It remains to be seen what the Blue Jays plan for the middle of the infield, with Andres Gimenez likely ticketed for the starting shortstop role and the future of Bo Bichette still in jeopardy." -Georges
If the Blue Jays end up keeping Jimenez until Spring Training and don't find a spot for him, they will likely be forced to move him or cut him.
