Chris Bassitt spoke to the media about his worries regarding the Toronto Blue Jays plans for the upcoming trade deadline and stated what he wants Ross Atkins to acquire.

The Blue Jays will clearly be buyers at the trade deadline this year as they currently sit in first place in the American League East and many believe that they are truly World Series contenders this year.

Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt states he wants Ross Atkins to acquire high-character players

One of the biggest strengths the Blue Jays have this year has been how well all the players are getting along and the all around health of the clubhouse as players want to win for each other.
During a recent interview, Bassitt stated that there is a lot of great players available but that the Blue Jays need to focus on bringing in only players with high-characters as the team cannot afford for a new player to drag them down.
"At the trade deadline it's just very important to add high-character guys," Bassitt said during batting practice on Monday before the Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 4-1 at Rogers Centre in the first of a three-game set. "A lot of the time your character can basically supersede your talent, so to speak. Like if you're not really bringing a positive mentality or a positive work ethic, or [you're bringing] off-the-field issues, I don't really want you. I don't care how good you are. " -Bassitt

Bassitt added that a low character player can cause some serious issues for a team and also stated that a player's attitude is almost more important than their skill level.
"The reality is if you bring low-character guys in, all of a sudden one person can start dragging down three or four people and then you have issues." -Bassitt

These are some great point made by Toronto's veteran pitcher as bringing in someone into the clubhouse that would bring down team moral could be a huge problem heading into the playoffs.
GM Ross Atkins will surely be taking these words from Bassitt into consideration as these are very important factors when looking at new players to bring in to a team that has been playing so well.
