The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking in to bringing back Bichette next season but they now have a very small chance of landing him after the latest Philadelphia Phillies update.

According to Bob Klapisch , the Phillies are almost guaranteed to land Bichette this off-season as Toronto has fallen off as the favorites to sign him.
The New York Yankees have also shown quite a bit of interest in Bichette but it is believed that they are not willing to make the offer needed to beat out the Phillies.
«The Yankees don't appear to have a Plan B ready. Outfielder Kyle Tucker is too expensive, and infielder Bo Bichette is almost certainly headed to the Phillies, where Don Mattingly, his former bench coach in Toronto, will assume that same role at the other end of the Jersey Turnpike.»

Bo Bichette seems like he is expected to sign with the Phillies

The Phillies are scheduled to meet with Bo Bichette on Monday, and that alone explains why New York can't wait around. Bichette, 28 on Opening Day 2026, just posted a .311/.357/.483 line with 18 homers and 94 RBIs in 2025.
Philadelphia also hired Don Mattingly as bench coach on Monday, and the Bichette connection is real, not just message board smoke. Mattingly spent 2025 as Toronto's bench coach before taking the same job in Philly.
On the field, Bichette's value is the fast bat and the doubles juice, and he can keep a lineup moving even when the homers dry up. He was Toronto's second-round pick, 66th overall in 2016, and he is still in his prime years.
For the Blue Jays, this is where the anxiety spikes, because the alternatives behind Tucker and Bichette get thinner fast. If Tucker is too expensive and Bichette is pulled toward Philly, New York has to win the Bellinger timeline or get creative.
The next real checkpoint is Monday's meeting and whatever movement follows, because silence is not a strategy in January. If the Blue Jays want leverage back, they need their Plan B to look like a plan, not a headline.
