Unfortunate setback for Blue Jays prospect Trey Yesavage announced
Toronto Blue Jays prospect pitcher Trey Yesavage had a very rough outing this afternoon for the Buffalo Bisons in Triple-A.
The Blue Jays recently announced that Yesavage would be coming out of the bullpen to gain experience as there is a chance that the Blue Jays call him up to their bullpen in the final weeks of the season according to manager John Schneider.
Trey Yesavage struggles with command in outing with the Bisons
Yesavage had his first very rough outing in Triple-A since being called up in his second straight game coming out of the bullpen but this one did not go as well as his last outing which resulted in him striking out 6 batters in 3 innings.
The Blue Jays top prospect only lasted 18 pitches before he was pulled as he only threw 8 strikes and his only out was a ground out by Syracuse Mets catcher Hayden Senger.
"Of the 18 pitches the top Blue Jays prospect threw, only eight of them were for strikes. Yesavage generated two whiffs on six total swings, with both whiffs coming on four total swings of the splitter. He threw seven fastballs, with the heater averaging 94.2 mph and touching 95.4 mph." Delaney
Despite having a tough outing this afternoon, Yesavage still has decent numbers in Triple-A this season with a 4.40 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts in a total of 5 games.
"In his Triple-A career, Yesavage has a 4.40 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched, with 22 strikeouts and 11 walks. This is the second time he's appeared out of the bullpen with the Bisons and the third time in his minor league career. It's believed that he could be an option for the Blue Jays' bullpen down the stretch." -Delaney
This performance will certainly hurt his chances of being called up to the Blue Jays bullpen but it can be erased depending on how he bounces back the next time they send him out.
Even with this tough performance and average numbers in Triple-A, the Blue Jays still might call up Yesavage this season since their bullpen is in a very tough spot lately and could use some serious help.
