Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is back in the Blue Jays lineup, but the star first baseman made one thing clear: his back still is not fully right.

Asked how he was feeling after missing a couple games with back tightness, Guerrero said he is “not 100%,” but added that he feels a lot better now.

That is the part that matters most for Toronto. Guerrero is improved enough to be back on the field, but not so healthy that the issue has fully disappeared.

And that makes this more than a routine day-to-day update.

Guerrero also gave the quote that says everything about how he sees his role. He said the team needs him out there, and if his body allows him to play, he is going to be out there.

That is exactly how franchise players talk. It is also exactly how small injuries can linger if a team is not careful.

For the Blue Jays, the good news is obvious. Their best hitter is back in the lineup after missing a few games, and the situation did not turn into a longer absence.

But the wording matters. “Not 100%” is not the same as pain-free. It tells you Guerrero is managing something, not simply moving on from it.

Toronto needs Guerrero healthy, not just available

That is the bigger issue for John Schneider and the Blue Jays. Guerrero playing through discomfort may help on a given night, but Toronto needs more than a willing body at first base.

It needs the real version of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

When a hitter is dealing with back tightness, it can affect everything that matters most at the plate: rotation, balance, and the ability to drive the ball with authority. That is why even a “better” update still deserves attention.

Guerrero's quote also shows the pressure he puts on himself. He clearly feels responsible for being in the lineup, and that responsibility only grows louder when the Blue Jays are trying to stay afloat in the standings.

That is admirable. It is also a reminder that the club has to protect him from the trap of playing just because he can tolerate it.

Because there is a difference between being able to go and being fully dangerous.

For now, the Blue Jays will take the progress. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. says he feels a lot better, and he is determined to stay on the field if his body lets him.

But his own words told the full story. He is back, he is trying to push through it, and he still is not 100%.

POLL

Should the Blue Jays keep Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the lineup if his back still is not 100%?
