Toronto Blue Jays fans are eyeing New York Yankees trade rumors around Freddy Peralta.

Toronto's winter has been loud, with Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers, and Kazuma Okamoto added for real money. There has been warning online Wednesday that the Yankees are lining up a counterpunch.
The report pointed to New York's interest in Brewers ace Freddy Peralta, as Milwaukee has been listening to trade offers on their ace
That leaves Peralta as the scarier fit, because he just went 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 2025. Milwaukee rode him to a franchise-record 97 wins, and his fastball-slider combo plays anywhere.
He worked 176.2 innings across 33 starts, punching out 204 hitters for the 2025 Brewers. When that guy is the rumor, every Toronto Blue Jays starter suddenly feels more important.

The bigger point is the Yankees rotation is thin on paper, and they are clearly hunting upside arms. That matters in the AL East, because Toronto already paid a premium for Cease's strikeout ceiling.
Peralta is 29, and he finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting after that 2.70 ERA run. Reports say his $8 million salary is part of why contenders, including New York, keep calling Milwaukee.
Cease's seven-year, $210 million deal was the loudest signal that the Jays want run prevention to travel into October. Add Rogers at the back of games, and the margin for error shrinks if New York lands Peralta.
None of this is a finished story until a trade is announced and the medicals clear. Still, Wednesday's rumor cycle is a reminder, the Jays are not the only club trying to buy a pennant.
