The Toronto Blue Jays are now turning their sights towards the trade market and a proposal was recently made involving the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Blue Jays have now added a couple solid pieces to their bullpen but it looks like they are not done just yet as there are multiple rumors that they are still looking for a closer.
Since the majority of the high end free agent closers have now signed, the Blue Jays will have no choice but to go after players via trade which is why there has been so many trade proposals floating around.

The Pirates are a great trade target since they seem to be looking to completely changes things and rebuild around superstar pitcher Paul Skenes.
A recent proposal stated that the Blue Jays could look to move beloved outfielder Nathan Lukes in exchange for closer Dennis Santana.
Heavy.com has a trade pitch that would see the Blue Jays acquire Dennis Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a fan-favorite outfielder in a one-for-one swap.

Blue Jays acquire:
RHP Dennis Santana
Pirates acquire:
OF Nathan Lukes

This trade could make a lot of sense for the Blue Jays since Santana would be a perfect fit to replace Jeff Hoffman as the team's closer as he finished the 2025 season with a 2.18 ERA including 16 saves in 70 games last season.
Moving Lukes could also work for the Blue Jays since they seem to be very close to signing Kyle Tucker who plays the same position as Lukes which will force them to free up some space.
The Blue Jays have only completed one trade so far this of-season which came a couple days ago with the Detroit Tigers but as most of the top free agents pitcher are no longer available, they might turn to the trade market for their next moves.
