Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt almost certain to not stay with the Toronto Blue Jays next season, they desperately need to sign some talent on the mound, and it appears they could be acquiring Ranger Suarez in free agency.

The All-Star pitcher is rumoured to sign a 5 year deal worth $115M for the World Series runner ups.

Blue Jays look to sign All-Star Suarez.

Jackson Roberts of Newsweek reported on the likelihood of Suarez joining the Blue Jays for the next half-decade.
The All-Star pitcher was recently with the Philadelphia Phillies before entering free agency this offseason.
"This past season, Suárez put up an economical 3.20 ERA and 4.7 wins above replacement in 26 starts. As an added bonus, especially for a team with the future goals the Blue Jays do, Suárez owns a phenomenal 1.48 ERA in 42 2/3 innings in the postseason, switching back and forth between starting and relief appearances."-Roberts

The biggest issue with Suarez is his work rate, as he has never hit the 162 inning threshold needed to qualify for the ERA title but the Blue Jays aren't looking for quantity out of him but rather quality.
"Entering his age-30 season, Suárez doesn't have a track record of being a workhorse, as he's never pitched the requisite 162 innings to qualify for the ERA title. But the Blue Jays may well be willing to trade innings in May and June for more important ones in October."-Roberts

Currently the Blue Jays do not have one left-handed starter in their rotation if the season were to start today. Their pitching depth was always their biggest weakness last season but this season has definitely helped their reputation as being a contender willing to spend money.
It will make acquiring the team they want much easier, and it's already apparent with signing someone like Suarez.

Is signing Ranger Suarez a smart move for the Toronto Blue Jays given his small work rate?
