Former Blue Jays pitcher Zach Thompson released
The Braves are well under .500 as they currently sit in 4th in the NL East division with no real chance of making the playoffs which is why former Blue Jays GM
Alex Anthopoulos' job might be in jeopardy.
Thompson who had been with the Braves organization since signing a minor league contract back in October of the 2024 season has been released from his contract and is once again a free agent.
The Atlanta Braves released the following players:
RHP Zach Thompson
C Harry Owen
The Braves also decided to part ways with catcher Harry Owen on the same day.
Thompson only pitched 3.2 innings in the MLB this season, finishing with a 0.00 ERA and 3 strikeouts which is quite impressive even if the sample size is very small.
Th reason for the release is likely due to Thompson's poor number is the minor where between Double-A and Triple-A he currently has a 6.57 ERA in 37 innings pitched.
During his time with the Blue Jays organization during the 2023 season, Thompson never got a chance in the majors as he pitched 105.1 innings pitched in Triple-A and a 4.61 ERA before being electing free agency the following off-season.
Should be interesting to see if at 32 years old and not much major league experience Thompson will be able to land a new contract.
