Toronto Blue Jays pitcher is set to become a free agent if the team decides to not offer him a contract by tonight's deadline and reports claim the teams seems to be leaning that way.
The Blue Jays are looking to possibly non-tender pitcher Jordan Romano by tonight's deadline
Romano is projected to make $7.75 million this season if the Blue Jays end up tendering him a contract which is the same amount he was paid in 2024 which was a massive overpay as he put up a 6.59 ERA in the few appearances he made and was injured the rest of the season.
According to reports, the Blue Jays seem to be truly looking into letting Romano become a free agent due to his decline last season and his multiple set backs due his elbow injury recovery.
The Blue Jays are considering non-tendering Jordan Romano, according to @longleysunsport .
He's projected to make $7.75M next season. Would be a bummer of an ending to what's been a great run for Romano.
Some have pointed out that a salary of $7.75 million is a lot of money for a pitcher that has so many uncertainties even if his history with the team has been great prior to last season.
$7.75 million freed up would not be considered chump change... you could do some things with that.
The Blue Jays have to make a decision on not only Romano but 3 other bullpen pitchers by tonight's deadline which include Erik Swanson, Zach Pop and Dillon Tate.
