Beloved former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher has officially announced his retirement today

Chavez bounced around quite a bit during his 18 years in professional baseball and with the majority of his time in the MLB spent with the Oakland Athletics and Atlanta Braves.

The former Blue Jays pitcher was most recently with the Braves in Atlanta but was released a few days ago after refusing an assignment to their Triple-A affiliate team in the minors.

On the Foul Territory podcast this afternoon, Chavez decided to follow in Kevin Pillar's footsteps and announced his retirement from professional baseball.

Chavez had two stints in Toronto, first in 2012 which lasted 9 games, followed by a second stint in 2016 when he won fans hearts over and finished with a 4.57 ERA in 39 games with 42 strikeouts in 41.1 innings pitched before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Mike Bolsinger.

After spending decades as a baseball player, there is a good chance fans will see his face once again as a coach somewhere down the line but first he will likely enjoy some much needed time off.
