The Toronto Blue Jays have made quite a few additions so far this season but are still looking to add offense and a potential trade with the Cardinals could be the solution.
Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker seem to be the Blue Jays main focus this off-season but as the winter continues to go on, there seems to be a chance that they miss out on both of them.
Cardinals and Blue Jays blockbuster trade proposal
The Blue Jays clear priority would be signing Bichette, Tucker or both this off-season but they need to be ready if both these deals do not end up working out and it looks like they could have a solid replacement with a trade for Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan.
A recent proposal stated that the Blue Jays could look at completing a trade for Donovan in exchange for a couple prospects as the Cardinals are looking to get younger.
If there's no traction on acquiring Bichette or Tucker, an alternative could be acquiring Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals. -Jaeger
Among these prospects that could head back to St Louis Ricky Tiedemann, Johnny King, Yohendrick Pinango, Joey Loeprfido and Addison Barger were named.
He missed the entire 2025 season, but getting added to the 40-man roster likely implies he will be healthy for spring training ahead of 2026. This makes Tiedemann an extremely appealing candidate for the Cardinals. -Jaeger
Out of all the players named, the biggest risk would be trading Barger who was a huge part of the team this past season and has shown a lot of potential in becoming a solid MLB player.
This will be a controversial trade piece among fans. However, to jump the Mariners and Giants, he may be the player who lands Donovan. Donovan is only two years older than Barger, can play the same positions, and is also a left-handed batter. -Jaeger
Adding Donovan would be great for the Blue Jays not only offensively as he finished with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs last season in 118 games but it is also his outstanding defensive game that would be a great addition.
