The Toronto Blue Jays were supposed to finally see Anthony Santander begin his rehab assignment today with the Buffalo Bisons but he unfortunately had a setback in his recovery.

Anthony Santander has setback head of rehab start

Santander was not in the Bisons lineup when it was announced this afternoon which had many fans wondering what was happening.
Manager John Schneider informed reporters that Santander is now dealing with back tightness issues after taking a lot of swings which has delayed the start of his rehab assignment a couple more days.
Anthony Santander's back tightened up on him after taking lots of swings so his rehab assignment has been delayed by a couple of days for now. Jays still hope he returns this season.
The goal is to give Santander a few days to recover from his back tightness then start to have him ramp up in hopes of having him return to the Blue Jays lineup before the end of the season.
Anthony Santander felt some lower back tightness swinging recently.

The #BlueJays are delaying his rehab assignment for a day or two in hopes that will be enough and that he'll still have enough time to ramp up in games.
Getting Santander back before the playoffs can end up being huge for the Blue Jays if he is able to return to the player he was in the past like last season where he hit 44 homeruns for the Baltimore Orioles.
If they get the same version he was before his injury this season, he might end up doing more harm than good.
