The Toronto Blue Jays have had a busy offseason so far, and their biggest target now is Kyle Tucker, however they now have Cody Bellinger as their backup option, while he is still favourited to return back to the New York Yankees, he could end up in Toronto.
The Blue Jays are looking for outfielders to add to their roster and while Tucker is their first option, Bellinger could be a great back up option.
Cody Bellinger now another name on the Blue Jays radar
Aaliyan Mohammed of Newsweek writes about the possibility of Bellinger joining the Blue Jays next season. It's not probable yet that he ends up in Toronto, but if the Blue Jays fail to sign Tucker, that probability gets much higher.
"While the Blue Jays are seen by many insiders as the favorites to sign Tucker, they do have an interesting "fallback plan," according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale. New York Yankees star Cody Bellinger is reportedly a target for the Blue Jays if they fail to sign Tucker."-Mohammed
The Yankees are making it a top priority to bring him back but after a terrific season last year, many teams are going for him, and the highest bidder will likely win. He slashed .272/.334/.480 with 29 home runs last season, not as good as Tucker, but a worth backup option.
"The Yankees will have to outbid many contenders to keep him around, and the Blue Jays' eyeing him as a Tucker backup is not good news for the Yankees. The Blue Jays are not shying away from spending big this winter, having already spent over $200 million on Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce."-Mohammed
The Blue Jays are in a lot of different rumour mills at the moment.
They aren't afraid to spend but they will have to make some tough decisions regardless. It would be very difficult to get Tucker and Bo Bichetter for example, Bellinger and Bichette would be better financially, but still difficult logistically.
Regardless, these are good problems to have, and the Blue Jays front office has made some pretty good decisions in recent memory.
