It's been almost a month since the heartbreaking game 7 loss for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but luckily a couple fans have made some good money selling the two home run balls from Miguel Rojas and Will Smith.
The two home runs one to tie the game in the 9th inning, and the other to win it in extra innings were ultimately the difference makers in the series.
Game 7 home run balls sell for absurd prices.
Aaron Coloma of Los Angeles Dodgers SI reported on the sale of the two home run balls, that ended up winning the Dodgers the World Series.
Rojas with only two outs left in the 9th inning sent a shockwave all across Canada tying the game with a solo shot and two innings later Smith call game and the rest was history. What's interesting now is where the balls landed.
"Both homers ended up in the left field bleachers, and both - coincidentally - landed in the hands of a father and son. John and Matthew Bains sat behind the bullpen in left field, and each caught one of the historic home runs."-Coloma
Both balls were sold at auction Rojas' for $156 000 and Smith's for $168 000, not bad for the family duo. The two make it habit to sit behind the bullpen, in hopes of catching home runs, which they did in ALDS against the New York Yankees as well.
"Shohei Ohtani also had a home run ball sold at the auction, and it landed more than both Game 7 home run balls. The ball from his second of three home runs against the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 of the NLCS sold for $270,000 at the auction."-Coloma
While the Blue Jays didn't get the storybook ending they wanted, at least a couple fans went home happy.
